Is there a cheap (< $20) adapter for playing my wii on my PC's LCD? The only ones I can find are at least $60. I can find a lot of cheap adapters for going the other direction, but none for going component TO vga/dvi.

I have a component to VGA cable (its normally associated with projectors and the one I got was an accesory in a BENQ projector bought at place I work at), they should be very cheap if you can find one (difficult to find). I have a PS3 and I had to be careful that I could hook up my PS3 to my computer LCD. These are the posts I made at another forum, which basically outlines what you need to hook up a PS3 to a LCD. It may help you with your wii.
Hi

I have connected my ps3 to my computer using VGA cable. If you want to do through DVI you will need HDCP on your monitor (I doubt it has this).

If you want to go through VGA, the steps are as follows:

a) Your monitor must support "Sync on Green" (or SOG)
b) Get a PS3 component cable and a component to vga converter (projectors use these so to find one maybe search for projector as well)
c) Connect PS3 to component cable to TV.
d) Go into display options and change to 576p or 720p
e) It will test the display settings and gives you 30 secs to confirm
f) Quickly within this 30 seconds hook up the PS3 to your monitor.
g) Confirm display settings

If you do not have SOG on your monitor, you will have to get a transcoder. In this case, its best off to just buy a new monitor that has HDCP (IMHO).

Also, I could only get my monitor on 576p as 720p gave a green tint. My friend who told me how to do this also had the same result. IIRC this has something to do with copy-protection.

I couldn't get DVDs to play properly (green tint reappeared - seems like display settings switch back to 720p for DVD playback).

FYI PAL resolution is 720*576i whereas the monitor lets you get 720*576p. For me this was good as my TV is small and not flat-screen so my large 19" LCD provided a flat screen experience at better resolution. Games definately look better with 576p.

Hope that helps.
Syncmaster!=sync on green

I doubt your monitor would support it as very few do (or so I was told). I tried searching for the specs of your model but couldn't find any sync on green (SOG) mentioned. Call up samsung to be sure.

For VGA transcoders, try the following:

www.x2vga.com

and

www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_...er&Go.x=0&Go.y=0

or google search for 'vga transcoder'

If I was you I would just upgrade to a new monitor, i.e. a 22" widescreen, some of them should have HDCP. IMHO that will be significantly better than a vga transcoder.

Also, Playstation 3 is still very good on a normal TV (as long as it is a decent size) so you may just be best using your PS3 with your normal TV and then upgrading to a HDTV when prices drop.

Finally, IMHO PS3 is an awesome console and I'm loving every minute of it. Theres so much it can do and its very user-intuitive (the wireless controllers are awesome!)

EDIT: If your monitor does support SOG, then any VGA converter is good (but they are a tad difficult to find unless you are willing to purchase online).

EDIT Again lol: It seems like you are in luck..your monitor seems to be supporting sync on green: www.superwarehouse.com/S...-BLACK/ps/624761

umm so just get a 'vga to component' converter and you're good to go (it will only be 576p mind you)

my previous post was a bit confusing since i edited it twice. you need a ps3 component cable and a component to vga converter (NOT transcoder, although transcoder can also work - but thats something different all together).

It'll be tough finding one, I work in IT so I was lucky to find one at work. Really best bet is online. Try www.staticice.com.au as well (some stores may be able to order it in for you?)

576p looks good in IMHO (but its a personal thing really). But I only have a very small tv in my room (34cm) and its curved so the monitor is a big step up for me. Try it out on your tv and then decided whether you want to connect it to the monitor. FYI my friend (who told me how to do this) has a samsung and said he loves it on the monitor as it doesn't irritate his eyes much. I have to say I agree with him.

Oh yeah double check for sync on green (just google your monitor model name + sync on green and go through a few sites). I checked out one of them and it said it had SOG, but be doubly sure before you spend any money.
