Component, Svideo, Optical??

Anubis

No Lifer
which one of these is better

my receiver/DVD/tv can do them all

i know the audio quality from optical is amazing. but is useing it with svideo better then component. im confused by this there are too many formats

Svideo and component connections are for images.

and Optical is for audio.

Go with optical connection for audio as it will have least interference .

and Component is ideal unless you have DVI connection for TV and source.

i know that so I shoudl run the Optical and just teh Vid line for component?
can I even do that

Is there any difference between Optical audio and Digital Coax ?

My digital cable (HD converter) box uses either digital coax or (analog) composite for audio... no choice for optical (TOSlink).

What's better - Toslink or Digital Coax ?

Yes. All component does is break the output down into three different color streams.

from my understanding OPtical is superior because of less interference.

you would want to use digital coax if you have a 5.1 (or better) setup and if you want to watch those movies or shows that support Dolby digital 5.1 (or ex+) or DTS.

Actually, Optical and Coax are succeptable to different kinds of interference.

In general, Coax is a sturdier, more rugged connector, so it's less likely to be damaged with movement or multiple plug/unplugs. Some argue that's it's nice because it's all electrical (whereas optical goes electrical to light and back to electrical) and thus more likely to be error free, but that's not widely supported.

The real big kicker on optical is that you need to avoid any and all bends in the wire. Want the smoothest, straightest piece possible. Twists and definitely bends will hurt the signal.

really?

what kind of interference is optical susceptable to?

Surprisingly, it has problems near power, especially with longer runs.

Practically speaking, both are excellent choices. Coax tends to be a little stouter and easier to use, Optical tends to reject RF/EMI better.

no difference for mere human beings.
