Component questions

How do you tell the difference between $30 sound cards and $180 sound cards? are there any popular brands. I only need like 4.1 or 5.1.

Also, I'm thinking about getting a component to hook an amp plug into to record some music...are those expensive? Any ideas?

thanks!

THe $180 card probably supports more simultaneous sounds, and has effects, and other things. THe reality is you don't need any of this. Audio processing is not a CPU hog. Hell the $180 card probably uses more RAM and CPU than the $30.

Get the $30 card.

how much is the rest of your audio equipement? that should be your guide. if its cheap, you don't need an expensive soundcard.

I'm using XP pro 32bit... so which card is better the one I posted above or the Creative X-Fi Extreme Music?

Still need to know, can you use 5.1 speakers with a 7.1 card?
Thanks
