Component or S-Video?

Do most of you prefer component cables or S-Video cables for hooking your dvd/tv up?

Whats your opinion on Monster Cables?

Overpriced, but decent cables. There are better cables at cheaper prices.

Component when available (some of myTVs only have S-video)

Monster Cable = good cables WAYYYYYYYY overpriced (I.E. ripoff)

before I get flamed - yes Monster cables are excellent, but you can get just as good for 1/10th of the price.

I like the RGBHV connection from my HTPC to my HDTV for watching DVDs (shown at 1080x540p) and analog cable upconverted to 1080i 😉

For the love of god get some component cables for your DVD. Otherwise you're missing a lot.

Only us lucky mits users are fortunate enough to have a RGBHV input. 🙂

I believe component has a seperate wire for each of the three colors. From what I have read of HomeTheaterForum, component is better, it is mainly better in bigger TVs however, and it's by a hugh margin

yay...get some monster wires!!!
then go by a sony wega!!!!

use component cables, but shop around for less expensive ones than monster cables.

of you can do what I do, just use 18 guage speaker wire for everything, works great and cuts down on the costs

your DVD player did not come with componet cables. You need to run out and buy some - AR has some good cables at a good price.

Really? Not just red, white, yellow audio video cables (which are not suitable for component video)? Well ya learn something new everyday.

Ayup...RGB cable in addition to the a/v cable. It's not the greatest quality and it's rather short but it worked!

Component vs SVideo? Well, component is often the best available... I'd rather buy friggin RadioShack plain gold stuffs than Monster's expensive grade stuff or even RadioShack's version of Monster. It's purely pointless... not like electrons care too much about what they travel through.

I just got a new TV (Daewoo 20") and it supports S-Video as well as component inputs. I'm wondering if there would be any advantage to getting the component video cable for my Gamecube? Right now I'm using S-Video and it looks quite good but I wonder if component would look any better? This is a normal TV (not HDTV) so would it make any difference or would it just be a waste of money?

SVideo is better quality, but Component isn't shabby at all.

Monster Cables are overpriced, but can be because of buyer ignorance and their massive distribution channels through BB and CC type stores.

Most likely the slight upgrade will not be noticeable for you; I'd save your money.
