im building a second system and swapping the motherboard i have now for a new one
id like to keep my hd as is and not format (230gig array, would require me to borrow some other drives to clone onto and it would take forever)
i realize that this may not work properly and windows will not load up
if i attempt the switch, will it then botch my hd setup so that when i go back to the original board it wont work?

im hoping ill just get lucky and it will work

im switching from a shuttle ak31 (kt266a) to a abit at7 max2 (kt400)
Im using a PCI 2 channel raid controller made by silicon image
2 wd1200JBs in RAID0

I think it would work considering both the old and new mobo have a via chipset, so drivers won't be an issue. The only complication I see coming up would be with raid.

I can't be too specific on this issue, but I haven't had too much success swapping mobos in working configurations.

I am almost positive you would have to recreate your RAID array. However, if it uses the same RAID controller, then it is quite possible that you could keep the same array. Just backup your important data, and see how it goes. That is the only way to really know for sure.

It may work but your system will not run the best for optimum performance I am afraid you must reinstall your OS

I have tried installing a new motherboard and then letting windows setup the new things a couple of times. It works but there is always some things that do not work right and I always end of doing a clean install. I even tried removing all the old devices in safe mode. It did not work anybetter. You will be much happier if you do a clean install.
