Complex Virus. HELP PLEASE!!!

I'm trying to fix a friends computer, I think they had a virus b/c programs keept on crashing and windows was blue screening... So I tryed to do a virus scan and it dected nothing.. but i think the virus got to N.A.V. b/c the update would not work. I tryed to download another virus scaner and the file would always be croupt. to i did an online virus sacn and it said everything was ok excpt it was denied to the boot recored or something. So I decited to to delete the partions and format. It seemed to work fine but when i started to install win 98 SE ( I tryed WIN98 org too) and when it asks me if I want a tipical, compact or custom as soon as I clicked "Next" is gives me an error message "SUWIN caused a General Protection Fast in Module KRNL386.EXE at 0001:3E03" When i click close it just freezes! Is the virus still inthe MBR? could it be in the BIOS? this is realy wered! Thanks for your time and help, Angelo

fdisk /mbr. You will also need to fdisk C: and then repartition the drive and reinstall the OS.

I have been fighting virii all week long. Damn KLEZ!!!!.. Anyway, seems like many of our users decides it was ok to turn off the background scanning. Unfortunately for the ones with outlook express, it infected them even though they did not open the attachment. After you get the machine reloaded, remember to install antivirus and tell it to scan all mail. Saves you much time in the future.

If its not a virus then it sounds like bad ram to me...just my .02

This could be heat related also. Have you checked in the bios to see if everything is running at the correct temps?
Also if the Fan on the PSU has stopped it can cause a heat problem. First thing I would do is take off the case cover and check any case fans, cpu fans and the psu. Its a good place to start!
