I picked up a second ASUS PA238QR yesterday from a guy on Kijiji. Now looking to find a third one at not-retail pricing. Hard to find right now it seems.

Impatient that I am, I'm considering getting a different monitor for the third screen. The PA238QR is a 23" IPS display with an apparent 80 Million:1 contrast ratio. If I were to find a cheaper third monitor, say a HP 23BW that is also 23" IPS with 50 Million:1 contrast ratio, how noticeable would the difference be?

In short, how important is it that all three monitors are identical? I'm not neurotic about consistency, but I want it to not suck and actually look appropriate.

You wouldn't notice it because you're rarely looking at the side screens. I'd be more concerned about bezel widths being different but even that would hardly be noticable.

Like SW said you won't notice it too much if they are your side monitors. Basically you put the best monitor in the middle where you will be focussing on that one more than the others. The others are there mainly for immerssive play. If bezels are a problem, like too wide, you could look into debezeling them. There are some YT videos showing how its done. It will vary from monitor to monitor but the principle is the same.
