Completely one-dimensional SNL sketch, but a spot-on Denzel Washington impersonation

SNL rarely makes me laugh anymore, but I hope to see more from this new guy... just ran across this Denzel impersonation from Saturday:

The overal premise for the sketch is a bit lame, but the impersonation simply makes it at least a 9/10

Also, the cast member, Jay Pharaoh, has some other material to pull from:

According to the Washington Post he’s known for his impressions, which also include Will Smith, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Eddie Murphy, and Barack Obama.

This was the first episode of the season that was rather meh to me (other than the digital short), probably cause so many of the skits were glee related.

That new black kid they brought in though has been hilarious in his segments so far this year, all the guys he's done has a voice close enough to trick your mind and the rest of the physical actions carry it through.

I like how the entire first minute of the sketch is basically "here comes a Denzel Washington impression in 3... 2... 1..."

His Will Smith impression is dead-on, although I listened to it on the laptop speakers. Still, the timbre of his voice is very close.

Wow... what a waste of good talent. Impersonation was excellent, but the sketch was extremely bad....

Is that a new black guy? Also I've never seen that fat white guy before. Shows how much I watch it. Is that Kenan and Kel guy still on there?

the reaction around 3:40 is hilarious lol

That's the funniest part -- the slow clap :) I didn't even really think Denzel had any "ticks" or "tendencies", but this whole sketch brought out the little things that I never noticed before -- and now that I look back, I can pick out every single one of them in his films.

I just watched this today. His Denzel is good. He has got Denzel down perfectly. :)
