Completely Isolated Windows build or tweaks

Hey guys,

I have a weird request. I'm a student who has to use the computer a lot for viewing lectures and whatnot. I'm also very ADD when it comes to taking internet breaks instead of working. I am constantly distracted and end making everything last minute (sorta like writing this post as I have a paper due tomorrow). I want to use my tech savvy nature to cater toward my inner student.

How can I tweak Linux or Windows 7 to be completely a completely destitute of any internet connective apps or protocols. I want it to just boot up and give me complete access to a desktop that has my office apps and a music player. I want nothing asking me about internet connections, no errors, no notifications about updating or anything.

Pure isolation from everything is what I'm shooting for. Just a stable desktop interface to view files.

I want to basically want to dual boot it and have a completely separate Work OS-partition with some sort of ability to access the files and documents from the other partition but have no other apps built in.

Thank you all in advance and I appreciate your help.

Why not install Ubuntu, uninstall he browser, and turn off updates. That should get you what you're looking for.

I could just install ubuntu and just uninstall literally everything. I want to almost uninstall all of the actual networking software built in.

I've tried disconnecting and everything but my normal desktop and set up just doesn't do anything for my concentration, i need something completely different and something that i have to work to get rid of such dual booting.

I'll try a wubi installation of ubuntu and uninstall everything and see how that goes. Hopefully no "networking" errors or any error pops up to annoy me as i uninstall.

Thanks for your help so far!

hahaha! to an extent, you're right, but gotta do what I can! I just hated printing out all of notes since i was going through thousands of pages a semester, but at least that allowed me to stay off the internet.

can't hate a man for trying to be a bit more green!

Could I try stripping down a Win7 SP1 image to just the bare minimum needed to run Windows + Word? I assume that's doable? Though I don't see how that would allow me to activate.

Thoughts? Your own strategies? Appreciate the help!

I like your wubi idea. It's easy to do, and no hassling with partitions. You shouldn't have to disable networking on it. Just get rid of the browser, and maybe mail and chat, then you're good to go. You can disable updating also, but I don't see much utility in that. Updates aren't much of a distraction.
