Complete system for family I-net usage?

Hey, I need some input here.
I have my own Oced 700 powerhouse system.
So my step father comes up to me and says that he has a project for me.
I need to find a family PC for him. And also network it with my cable modem. (saves me half the cost)
So what I need here on what kind of system I should put togeather.
I was thinking celeron or duron. Mabey an athlon if I can get em nice and cheap.
But its mainly going to be used for family internet usage, and I would imagine some games and little gimpy apps .
Nothing like UT or hardcore 3d apps.
Looking to spend 500 - 1000 Max.
Probably looking at like a duron 600 or 700.
geforce 2mx, 256 ddr or tnt2 vid card.
IBM ata 66.
Im not totally sure.
What would be for family usage?

Maybe check AnandTech's last Value Buyer's Guide. Or just get one of those introductory type PC's at Dell or Gateway - I think they run $700-1000.

If going for a every day computer on the cheap it's hard to beat Dells prices on the low end systems.(low end ha......like a PIII700 is already low end) They have a PIII700 with everything for $699
