Hey guys, I just recently decided to go ahead and step up from the laptop game and purchase my first desktop since like Windows 98/2000. I was talking to a buddy who recently built his own computer and referenced this forum as an excellent place to find help in getting what i need to build my new computer. He told me Mnewsham and Mfenn helped him out a bunch, and I was hoping someone could do the same for me.

What I want/have
  • My budget is anywhere from $450-$600, I'd like to stay as close to $450 as I can.
  • I'm using my 1080i TV as the computer monitor
  • I'm mainly looking for a personal use computer as opposed to a gaming console.
  • Despite not wanting a gaming console I'd still like a solid video card that can play some games and give me nice picture on my 1080i TV.
  • Memory is not a huge issue but still I'd like a bunch of gigs possibly even a terabyte to play around with.
  • Mostly I'd just like the computer to run fast and issue free at the end of the day.

Now I have no clue what parts to even start buying, what is a good deal, or even where to find parts at all lol. So I know I'm a super noob at this and any and all help is appreciated, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance guys.

Looks nice, but I'm not sure if it's quite what I'm looking for...seems more like a gaming PC

That looks pretty good actually. At that price range, there are a lot of compelling prebuilt options. Also there are some good DIY bundles on newegg. Good luck!

I dont see anything gaming pc about it, very nice rig and other than the discrete graphics card its really not wasting money on anything. The discrete graphics even have their place if you encode/decode high def video

It's not bad, but specing it out yourself you could build a very similar system and cherry pick better parts. For example, that system uses an Asus M4N68T-M V2 so use that as a baseline to spec your own build.

Spending just a few bucks more on a better motherboard would get you things like more RAM slots, USB 3, 6GB SATA, etc. Now granted, you're not looking for the most kickass system in the world, but still- we're talking the same price range, so why not cherry-pick better parts?

Just from looking at the newegg discription/images, you can figure out every piece of hardware they're using in that thing. Just throw the same stuff in your cart, and cherry-pick better stuff where it matters most. *coff coff cheap ass Logisys ready-to-die $12 PSU coff coff*
