Hi guys, I just want to ask for assistance regarding how to completely and safely erase data on a hard drive.

I know a software that can destroy data on a hard disk i.e. activekilldisk, you use this on boot up and this will erase the disk completely

What I want to achieve is erase data completely while on windows in other words i need to "really" delete a file without any trace without formatting or erasing the operating system. I have read that files are not really deleted but the pointer to that file is just removed.

I saw one application, CCleaner i am not sure if the function there will achieve what I need, there is a function that says "erase free space only" with options like erase using "Gutmann algorithm" etc.

Is a file that was deleted becomes "free space"?

Thanks in advance for any replies!
