Complete and total failure

Well, all my Windows files got corrupted and it won't even boot to windows now. Ok, well I didn't have any important files or anything on the computer, so might as well reformat right? Well, here's the case: My Windows CD is being a retard.

I boot from CD, it sets up the Windows XP setup, I hit ENTER to enter setup, press F8 to agree to licensing terms, it says "cannot find a previous version of Windows installed on the computer." Then it says something along the lines of "Please insert Windows CD into drive and press ENTER." I do as it says but it keeps repeating "Please insert Windows CD into drive and press ENTER." Over and over. I know the CD drive is working, cuz it's able to boot from the CD, but I dunno, the Windows CD stops working.

Any tips? This sucks.

You have an upgrade CD. You need to find a previous Full version of Windows to be able to install from your XP upgrade CD.

Sounds like you have an Update version of windows that needs a prior version installed.

I just looked at the CD and it says "upgrade CD." Wow I need to read things more. Now time to look for that old W98 CD I have somewhere...

Hi, I don't know about XP. Never had the problem, but 98SE has a nasty trick of refusing to set up the CD on install. It gives the type of error you are getting. My only solution has been to install a DOS CD driver. Win 98 then installs ok and rems the Dos driver from Autoexec.Bat. Maybe you can work out something similar and try it. Hope this helps, Jim
