;) You'll get all the complaints you want from people in here.

Personally, I've used it in 3 system builds and love it.

I have used two, and never had a problem with them. Rather stable.
I use them with Athlon XPs.

Mind you, no o/c-ing though...

<< thanks guys,... no overclocking.. this isn't for me :) >>

That ends the debate right there, then...

I built a computer for my wife using the ECS K7S5A. It's been running rock solid for over 6 months now. The CPU is a Duron 750 at 933 MHz (1.85 v), which means it's running at 124 MHz FSB. This bus speed is interesting because the PCI bus should be at 41.3 MHz, but is running at 31 MHz instead. The reason I bring this up is because the ECS board does have overclocking options if you get creative (remember the L7 bridges).

I highly recommend this board and hear that it is the board of choice for the 1 GHz Duron at the moment because of cost/performance ratio; sometimes Fry's sells this combo for $89! A good many people are running the 1 GHz Duron on this board because for under $100 you can have a system that will run at 1.33 GHz at default voltage in alot of cases. I know you said overclocking is not your bag, but if you can run the chip at 1330 @ default voltage STABLE then why not overclock?

EDIT: BTW, this board has been running for six months on a Deer 300 max watt PS. I hear that Deer is not a good PS to own, even though I have two work fine and keep my 5 volt rail at an even 5 volts...

3 systems built on it - no complaints.

1 upgrade w/ an 800mhz duron@ 992mhz (124mhz FSB) using mixed PC100 @ PC133 generic...rock solid
1 duron 850 combo - not o/ced, runnign infineon pc133 w/ ultra timings at CAS 2....rock solid
1 duron 1ghz combo - not o/ced, running nanya pc2100 w/ ultra timings at cas 2....again - rock solid.

uh, as far as i'm away, a morgan cored 1ghz duron is NOT goign to o/c to 1.33ghz at stock voltage...in fact, it's unlikely to o/c that high even at 1.85v (using hte pencil trick for the ecs k7s5a)...

but u COULD, and most likely, get it to run at 1.12ghz or 1.24 ghz @ 1.85v.

I rarely overclock the systems I build for other people. In that context, the K7S5A is a great mobo. I used it in 3 builds recently: one Athlon and two Durons. The board is very easy to set up and extremely stable.

<< have built 20+ systems with it, best motherboard choice of any board out today >>

nice to hear...

John thanks for scaring me... :|

:p

hopefully this works out good.. my uncle has had bad luck with his computer...

i hope that Enlight 250 can handle it...

Built 4 systems with this board. 3 of them are generic Power Supplies. All are running perfectly. No blue screens either. Built in Ethernet and sound and the SiS chipset make this board a great value.

AMD MB thread for 1 gig Duron/ECS K7S5A

HardOCP thread Morgans @ 133 MHz

I agree with you but the latest batches of the Morgan CPUs are better overclockers now than when they were introduced. It's still luck of the draw and 1.24 shouldn't be too far out of league for the 1 GHz Morgan if 1.33 isn't attainable. Also, the PCI bus at 112 MHz is 37.3 MHz, which is not too bad although I would be hesistant to run PCI at that speed.

Bought one, liked it a lot. No stability problems at all with a 250w PS and an Athlon XP 1600+, put a 300 and my old Tbird 650 with it and made it a nice safe mom machine. Only crashed on her once that I know of.

Wish I had an excuse to build a new computer so I could buy another.

<< Not an over-clocking board, needs a decent power supply. (300W+) >>

What about for a Duron processor? Looking to build my dad a very budget PC. Can a 250w PS handle it?

you might want to get a spare internal battery for it, the K7s5a sometimes contain a battery that has almost no charge. i believe it is 2032 battery.

Great motherboard. It's stable, fast, and cheap. I've been running one for about 6 months now.

Built 2 systems with it and no complaints at all. For the money it's a really great board.
