I updated to the Catalyst 9.5 drivers today, and I can finally use Compiz! In the past, I got horrible flickering with any 3d apps, or apps that used Xvideo acceleration. Just thought I'd mention it in case other people with Radeons had the same issue.

I remember always having to disable Compiz whenever I wanted to watch a DVD because of the way that Ubuntu would handle OpenGL with ATI cards.

Good to see that it is potentially being fixed.

i didnt have that problem with my T60 w/ x1400, worked perfect

i have a 4870 and things work, but video playback freezes up about half the time. xorg in general crashes, but it also lags pretty often and i thinks thats more because of the update rather than the ati drivers.

With my MR X1600, I always had to disable all desktop effects to get it to work properly. I think if I changed the rendering to software, it would be mediocre, but it wouldn't look that good. I know I had to do something, I just don't remember what it was specifically because it's been a while since I've used Ubuntu.
