Competitive pricing/constructive info in FS/FT

I hope this is the right place for this.

My suggestion is that informative and constructive posts in FS/FT not be automatically treated as thread crapping if they point out that something can be found cheaper elsewhere.

In the Hot Deals forum, if someone posts that something can be found for x, and someone else posts where that same item can be found for (x - y), that second post is generally not considered thread crapping. There is real community value in the second post.

I've seen posts in the FS/FT forum where someone is selling something used for more than it is currently going for retail due to some special or rebate.

It is a shame that moderators would not allow us to help out our fellow Anadtech'ers with such information. We shouldn't be cheating or scamming each other.

Let's put all the relevent information out there on the table and allow *informed* members to make the best deals.

A few reasons why this won't be allowed.

First:
This is FS/T and not hot deals. We first have to assume that the sellers know what their items are worth. It's up to them to set the price and not up to the buyers to remind them that it can be had to $XX.XX at another site or for $xx.xx after rebate, etc.

Secondly:
There is enough threadcrapping in FS/T as it is, if this were allowed, that's all we mods would be doing is monitoring what you call "constuctive posting" as opposed to the other members that would be posting this info to try to get the seller to lower their price.

Thirdly;
I don't know about the other FS/T mods but I spend enough time monitoring the other aspects of FS/T like trolls, scammers and returning banned members. Also much time is spent making sure the new members are being made aware of the rules without the need for the micromanaging that this suggestion would entail.

I think you'd have less to do, not more; since fewer posts would fall into the actionable category.
No, it would be more.
What is "helpful info" to one person is a thread crap to another.
Person A has X for $50.
Person B posts that store Y has it for $48.
Person A responds that store Y doesn't include shipping and tax.
It could go on and on like this over various nuances. The forum is fine the way it is.

Exactly!

Not to mention, if a user has an item such as a CPU that has been lapped, tested to overclock well, he should be able to ask a little more for his time and effort.

Other people coming into the thread stating that one can be purchased here new for $x may sway a potential buyer.

a simple solution is this - if you disagree with what they are asking for their things simply click the back button and continue browsing. if the price they are asking is to high more than likely it will remain for sale till they lower the price themselves or you can private message them with your suggestion for the price. that way there is no thread crapping
