Compensate for shared video memory with extra RAM?

A newbie question-
I am looking to buy a laptop and many that are in my budget range seem to have Integrated memory. I understand that means the graphics processor is on the CPU itself and uses part of the system's RAM for Video which makes the laptop slower.
Question- Can I compensate for the RAM that the graphics processor is sucking by adding some more RAM?

FYI- I don't intend to play any games on the laptop. I may do some video editing if the laptop can can handle it.

Thanks for your responses.

as long as you don't play games on it, it takes very little ram. i wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the reply.
Most systems I looked said they use between 32MB and 128MB for Video. I would prefer as far as possible that my RAM not be eaten away.
So, going back to my original question, can I help by increasing my 256+256 RAM to 256+512? That will probably cost me $75 or so, but may be worth it.

Thoughts?

it will help overall, but like i said, the video takes very little ram. it is almost unoticable.
