Compatible Memory or Faster

i currently have a inspiron 8600 with two 256 rams that are 2700 speed. i was wondering if it makes a difference or hurts my computer if i get something faster... i want to buy new ram for my laptop but if i get 533 ram instead of 333 i save 20 dollars.. this is on new egg actually.. i was wonder if any one can help me out with my choice if you need more information just ask. im not too good with computer and it seems that the anandtech forums might help. thanks.

welcome to atgh

you can match the faster ram w/ the slower stuff, makes no differences. All that will happen is that the faster mem will slow down to be even w/ the 333 mem.

Be careful about the different types of RAM, though. I'd expect that any 533MHz stuff would be DDR2 and won't run in your laptop, which takes DDR RAM. The two aren't compatible.

Almost certainly. Feel free to get PC3200, but anything faster is either expensive specialist overclocking ram or DDR2, which you can't use.
