im looking to add some memory to my Dell... it came with some memory made by ProMOS Technologies, who i would have to call in order to buy some more.

When purchasing new ram, should i go through the trouble of getting some more ProMOS or is it safe if i just match speeds?

thanks for any anwers

what are the numbers on the memory? If you match the speed you'll be fine, but be sure you add 2 sticks for dual channel if this applies to you.

You could always go to crucial.com and use their memory configuration tool to find otu what you can use then go online to other sites and pick out your memory based on what speed crucial recommended.

i know for a fact its DDR2 PC2-4200. I just remember reading somewhere that if you mix and match memory manufacturers, it causes instability.

not really unless they're totally off. Meaning 2 different voltage requirements speeds and timings.

Check the timings, e.g. 4-4-4-12, and you should be OK.

The mis-matched memory might cause issues, but with this speed (i believe 533MHz) you will be fine - as long as you match the timings and voltage.
