I just bought a tekram DC-390U3W ultra160 controller, and I've stumbled across some compatability issues with the card and my p3v4x mobo.
First off, I've updated both the card (4.17.00) and mobo (rev 1005) to the latest BIOS. And when I plug the card into my AbitBH6 mobo, everything works fine. So here's the problem: When plugged into the p3v4x, I boot the computer, and the scsi bios detects and lists my devices. Next it displays "PCI boot ROM successfully installed!" Then the computer hangs. I'm guessing this is because it's trying to boot from my new scsi hd which is blank.
I configured my boot-up sequence for floppy drive as 1st boot, but the scsi "PCI boot ROM" message occurs before the mobo has a chance to start the boot sequence. (The reason everything works fine on my BH6 is because the "PCI boot ROM" message never appears, thus the mobo boot-up sequence works.)
Is there a way I can force the scsi drive to NOT be a boot drive? Or is there a way I can prevent the scsi boot ROM from loading???
Thanks in advance for the help! I hate spending my b-day futzing with my computer all day long... oh, and once I get this working I'll post my opinion on how much an improvement this makes on my system over ide raid.
