I think a lot of confusion about BB's is that they're crazy popular all over the world, in the US, it's all about the iPhone or touchscreen phones.

RIMM sells more phones than Apple by a significant margin-worldwide.

not so sure I would consider 3% a "significant margin."

Now I think it is safe to say that Nokia is outselling both RIMM and AAPL by a significant margin (albeit one that has shrunk pretty steadily over the last 24 months or so).

Also, 80% of RIMM's sales in recent qtr's have been non-corporate, i.e., not BES or BIS activated.

Yep, the ratio was 4:1 corporate, now it's 4:1 personal.

I was under the assumption there was room for only one dominant smartphone or company, I think we'll see 3 players, RIMM, Apple, and Android.

Nokia keeps screwing the pooch in the US market, I dunno why they keep screwing up so badly, it ain't rocket science. It actually seems like they're going to become one of those corporations that just holds intellectual property and sues the crap out of everyone and allows their core business to crumble.

Google could be doing a bit more to bump it's market share, but they seem to be in no hurry...

Isn't Android just like an 'alliance' or a collective group of companies? I don't think it is just a semantic difference because it means that 'Android' will never become a dominant smartphone company precisely because it is not a company. Now, I think saying that that smartphone OS wars will boil down to Blackberry, OSX, and Android is a realistic guess.

BTW, as it has been a few quarters since Android came out, is Google making any money off of Android? I know they get the search impressions/mindshare cause it is sometimes branded/linked to Google, but are they the 'head' of the Android alliance (and if so, do they get a $$ royalty per handset sold/licensed?)

IIRC, the OS is free, Google collects tons of behavioral data and pushes ads on the browser though..

I really want a browser that allows me to block ads...
