Comparing Athlon XP and Semperon CPU's?

If anyone has any good anecdotal information or any links to benchmark studies on the different between Athlon XP and Semperon CPU's I would greatly appreciate it.

I know the Semperon is the AMD response to the Celeron budget market but I want to know if the XP is worth the money.

Target Computer: Budget... limited gaming to be done. Mainly internet, word processing, cd-burning. I was considering the 2400+ Semperon for $65 Retail.

It'll be fine for anything you need, but consider this for $12 more bucks you can get this :

What I don't get is the semperon has the same amount of L1/L2 cache as the Athlon XP's but the operating frequency is actually higher in the Athlon.

Can anyone explain:
1. How these chips run at different clock speeds but are both rated 2400+?
2. Any actual difference in the run speeds?
