Im cant decide between these (I think all have 256MB):

X1600PRO
X800GTO
6600GT
6800XT

Any insight?

I prefer dual DVI just in case I find a HD on DVI LCDs in the future. I really need to buy something in February, but have read that prices may be dropping next month. Worth the wait?

When you say 6800XL I assume you mean 6800XT, right? Anyways, a X800GTO will be able to beat all of the other cards pretty easily, especially when OC'd and unlocked (in the case of the X800GTO^2). X800 GTOs are madly overclockable, so if you like to do that, then that would probably be your best choice.

6600GT and 6800XL are 8 pipe cards, so that's a hit on performance compared to the 12 pipe X800GTO. The X1600PRO is also a 12 pipe card, but it is hindered by a 128 bit memory interface, compared to the 256 bit memory interface on the X800GTO. Also, if you can afford a x800GTO, you might just want to shell out the extra $30-40 or so and get a X850XT, which has 16 pixel pipes by default and is very overclockable

what's a 6800xl? it's not sold anywhere in america. specs?
as for everything else, the x800pro or 6600gt for gaming(256mb ro 128mb x800gto?). x1600pro for a better hdtv and movie exprience.

I think the 6800xl si some sort of british msi card or sometihing, no info beyond this though.

either way it think it's some sort of 6800le but not sure. I'd say it's slower than a 6600gt though if it is a standard 6800le.

Well, X800GTO (esp. GTO^2) is still the way to go, unless you want to shell out some more $$ for an X850 XT and get the extra performance and bragging rights associated with it. "HEY LOOK!! I have the TOP END ATI card!!! *cough* from the last generation *cough*" 😉

I will never spend more than $150ish on a video card. That is just dumb. Some of us actually have a wife, house payments, car payments, etc 😉. I dont exactly live on "this" computer playing games etc. Actually, the ATI x200 integrated runs BF2 @ 1024X768@75hz just fine, COD2 is another story. I have had an ti4200 for about 3 years now (paid $100) and it has/still works just fine, but I got a new computer with a PCI-e slot. I want something to last me about that long again. Me spending any amount of money just on myself is really unheard of so this is a far fetch for me.

Computer cost me ~$330
1GB ram = $66
Video Card =$???

Would like to keep it as close to $500 as I can get.

Did you read the reviews on that?

I have been on newegg all day 😉

This is what I am looking at getting: Connect3D X800GTO

I'd just be a little iffy about getting a refurb card. Not the unlocking as it seems like if it has the core then it should unlock, but rather the condition of the card. Could be a very poor overclocker or have other issues.

I think Monarch is selling 6800GSes for about $160 after rebate, but an unlocked GTO would blow it away, so that'd probably be a much better buy.

I dont plan on overclocking at all.

From what I read on the reviews of that card, is that on the first batch you could unlock to 16 pipes, but then they fixed it, so many people returned the card hence me not minding refurb on that card.

connect3d dosentdo well becasue it's essentially a x800xl core so it ocs badly and newer cards are iffy on unlocking. On the other hand, some people are getting x800gto2s already unlocked from the factory. They are essentially x850xt cores and overclock very well. Although for stock performance, a x800gto will just edge out a 6600gt.

Splurge and get the 7800GT based on how long you keep your cards you'l be thanking yourself for spending a bit more and getting almost twice the performance of the stock X800GTO plus it has SM3.0 support so it should stay currently much longer than anything based on the X800 series.

I wish I really had the mindset to be able to blow that much on something that is worth half the original price in 6 months.

Ive heard that the price on 7800s' will drop sometime soon. If I can get one <$200 I probably would. 🙂

You know, if you just get an X850XT for $199, you're coming close to 7800GT performance (16 pixel pipes vs 20, but higher clock speed). You won't have to get another card for a while, because this card can play all the latest games with AA/AF on at high FPS. I know you don't want to OC, but an OC'd X850XT will match and even exceed 7800GT speeds because the huge cooling fan is great for OCing-580 core/550 RAM clocks are routine in an X850XT.

Btw the prices of X850XT cards have dropped dramatically over the last few months-check the prices of the X850XT PE (slightly higher clock speed), and you'll see that it still costs nearly 400 dollars. That's what the XT used to cost.

An HIS X850XT with improved Cooling solution (similar to NVSilencer) is $197 right now after $40 rebate

A Sapphire X850XT is $199, and you can get a refurb one for $182

I know where you're coming from, I can't bring myself to spend >$200 on a GPU. I'm not that much of a gaming enthusiast...

Here's how i'd stack the cards you've listed: X800GTO > 6800XT > 6600GT > X1600 Pro

The X800GTO should give you consistently better performance of the cards listed - but the X800 line lacks SM3.0 support. In that range, you should look to the X1600XT or 6800GS. I know you can get the X1600XT from PowerColor w/ dual-DVI, not sure about the 6800GS tho. The 6800GS is the better performer, but the X1600XT's AVIVO features may appeal to you...
