Compare laptop to pc video card.

I currently have an E1705/9400 with a Geforce go 7800. I cannot find anything showing how that would compare to an 8800GT. I am thinking of building a desktop and I know it is way faster but I am unsure how much. Do you know any websites that show the performance of those two cards.

Should be, at BEST, half as fast but I don't know for sure. I know my desktop 7950GX2 is supposed to be almost as fast as an 8800GTX, and IIRC, the 7800 is right below the 7900

Well, just looking at a synthetic benchmark like 3Dmark06, the go7800 scores about 2200 points, while the 8800GT 512mb scores around 11000 :Q

Mind you the mobile version of the 7800 series was quite crippled compared to its desktop counterpart- so the real comparison here might as well be a 7600GT vs. a 8800GT. Now it seems like an understandable increase.

Granted, it's a synthetic benchmark, but I'd assume you'd see at least triple the performance.

Doubtful to find a site comparing notebook hardware to desktop hardware. THe only one I can think of is Toms Hardware in which he has every modern desktop card pitted against each other. It take a bit of digging to find. But find the desktop 7800 and it will at least give you a rough idea of where your card stands.

I ended up grabbing an xps 420 with a 8800gt. I think I will be more than happy with the performance.
