Compare Apartment COL... COL shortened for Cost of Living.

How much do you spend on your apartment / town house per month and what other costs do you have such as phone, cable, etc... also state what city and state ^_^ Thanks

The purpose of this post is to help me get more information about how much it costs to live on your own. I also know it is going to vary from state to state.

How exactly is asking other people what they pay going to tell you how much you are going to pay? Cost of living can vary by the thousands per month from person to person.

philadelphia - 3 bedroom apartment, $1510/month, about $100 electric, $30 gas, $120 cable. Our heat and water are paid for.

I'm in Albany NY, a studio w/ all utilities and internet included for $525/month. The building is really old, though. Think clawfoot tub, etc..

There have been threads on this before that you might want to check as well.

This will probably be good for comparison since the last 3 one bedroom apartments I lived in (3 different states) were all about the same age (10 yrs. old) and size (700~750 sq ft.) and had the same features (washer/dryer in unit, private patio, swimming pool, tennis courts, fitness center, security gates, water/sewage/trash). All apartments were slightly outside major city or downtown areas so you can add about $300 to each if you want an approximate middle of the city price. It's always cheaper to live on the edge of the action.

New Orleans, LA (not downtown) apartment = $715
Southeast Florida (Boynton Beach) apartment = $950
Austin, TX (North) apartment = $645

Cable has ranged from $120~140 month with Digital , HDTV, DVR, and some premium channel or package (3 different compaines)
Electric is from $60~160 per month depending on time of year (and whether hot water, stove, dryer, heater are gas)
Gas is about $25~30 in summer and a bit higher in winter

Northern california, about 1100 a month for a 600 sq foot apartment (1 bed 1 bath). This number includes my costs for all utilities (cable, power, etc).

Blasted CA housing prices.

Cambridge, MA (Central Square), small 1br $1050, heat/hw included. Cable/intarwebs $52. Subway ~$35. Power ~$55.

edit: Before boston:

Philly, PA (near Penn campus) medium sized 1br $760, ~$125 heat/cooling. $40 intarwebs.
Austin, TX large 1br (washer/dryer) $750.

Yes, cost of living can vary from person to person. I ask for them to list all their expenses for living in the apartment / town house so I can see are some people getting water / trash or some other expense bundled in their rent or not. As for them listing the prices I was just curious on how radically different it was from where I live to where some of these other people live.

Atlanta (Midtown) - 750 sf 1 bdrm, including gas, water, cable, and kickass fast internet with a super upload speed (think 15 mbps up) - $1300/month + $60 electric
College Station, TX - 815 sf 2 bdrm - $800/month + $80 cable/internet package + $60 electric

Rented an apartment in a suburb of Dayton, OH, a few years ago: $400/mo for much more than 700 sq ft (900+ maybe?); It was pretty crappy though
