Looking to replace video card. Not OCing. I will be replacing whole system sometime next year so I do not want to do replacement now. Im trying to decide on the following, both are at newegg.

XFX 6800XT
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150157
350/1000
8pipes
256bit

Asus N6800/TD/512m
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814121216
325/535
12 pipes
128bit

I know the standard 6800 would beat the XT, however I am little worried about the 325/525 memory speed and the 128bit interface.

Main game I play is EQ2 if that helps.

thanks :)

For that money, you can get a more powerful 7600gt at newegg. Out of those two, however, it is stalemate. The xfx 6800xt is the "extreme" edition, with souped up speed, a 256bit interface (as opposed to 128bit) but the asus has 12 pixel pipelines as opposed to 8 in the xfx and 512 vmem (not very important, but the pixel pipelines are. I'd get...the 7600gt. Neither of the linked cards would improve on the 6800 you already have.

PS. I would keep your system untill 2008. After k8l gets sorted out.

I see that, but I fail to see the reason why he's changing to a card that is basically the same.

Unless, of course, your card is broken and NewEgg is allowing you to exchange for another product.

Anyway, my recommendation would be to go with the XT - the bit bandwidth makes a pretty big difference, and you should be able to unlock those extra pipelines anyway.

I'm not sure about that ASUS memory clock, or even the XFX memory clock. Relatively, it would make sense that the ASUS were using regular memory clocks, making it 1070 in DDR speeds, BUT 6800s rarely ever go above 1000. Something strikes me as fishy...

Hey all thanks for the help. little bit more info, I have to have AGP as Im not upgrading so the 7600GT is out. My budget is under $200 as I dont want to sink in alot of money.

yes I have the EVGA Limited edition and unlocked all the pipes, however is it failing now in 3D. I will not return it to EVGA as I did the unlocking against warrenty so I take the responsiblity. The card has been great for the 2+ years Ive had it.

Im just looking for something to run EQ2 decently until I rebuild the whole thing.

I see.

BTW... have you considered looking at any of ATI's cards? IIRC, I saw an X850XT going for something like $150. It's an old card, but it still beats the pants off of a 6800NU. X800XL, X800GTO would also do the trick. Look around.

have you tried disabling the pipes you unlocked and trying it in 3D again?

I have tried disabling the pipes and still have problems.

I thought about ATI - I saw that post under Hot deals for the 850XT, looks tempting. I have not had an ATI for while now might be time to try another one.

Ill look into the 850XT more, if not I think ill end up with the 6800XT.

thanks
