Comparable Video Card to GTX295

What would be the most comparable video card to the GTX295? I play X plane and x plane doesn't support SLI so the GTX295 acts as one GPU not taking the full advantage of the card.

What card would be comparable to the GTX295 that is just a single GPU? Any in the same price range of what I can get for the GTX295, maybe $150 - $200?

You won't find a 200$ card that is on par with the 295. GTX570 is around 300$, that's the card.

Wow I didn't think the GTX295 was _that_ good o_O

But yeah, SLI isn't even supported in X Plane 10 (their most recent version came out like 5 or less months ago), so the GTX295 isn't anything with one GPU working.

Actually, with drive optimizations...a GTX560 ti 448 should be at pair.

Yea, the 5870 was about the same speed when it launched. I imagine a card around there would be very close... an overclocked 6870 or GTX560Ti, something around there would be in the ballpark, I think.

5870 was nowhere near the 295 and the 6870 slower than a 5870. The 560Ti 448 core is a close one but not quite and it's 280+ $

Unfortunately the GTX 295 has a lot of horsepower in it, so it's not a cheap upgrade from it. The upside of getting a comparable video card though is that you will get DX 11 and higher VRAM (considering the 295 has less than 1GB). Like people said a 560 Ti 448 would be very close.

Crysis Warhead: 97% as fast @ 1600P, 93% as fast at 19x12 - http://www.anandtech.com/show/2841/17

Battleforge: 80% as fast at both resolutions - http://www.anandtech.com/show/2841/19

Dawn of War II: 106% as fast at 1600P, 101% as fast @ 19x12 - http://www.anandtech.com/show/2841/22

Resident Evil 5: 87% as fast @ 1600P, 92.5% as fast @ 19x12 - http://www.anandtech.com/show/2841/23

Batman AA: 78% as fast @ 1600P, 84.5% as fast @ 19x12 - http://www.anandtech.com/show/2841/24

Left 4 Dead: 93% as fast @ 1600P, 109% as fast @ 19x12 - http://www.anandtech.com/show/2841/25

That's 92.5% as fast at 1600P and 94% as fast at 19x12. That's also with the crappy launch drivers, AMD had a number of performance improvemet drivers (remember the Cat 10.3's before Fermi's launch?) So I'll let you define what "nowhere near" means to you, but 94% is near in my book. With current drivers I wouldn't be surprised if the 5870 is actually faster... the 6870 has current, good drivers. It is likely not as fast, but it is in his budget and probably very close to it.

The GTX 295 is only decent in older games, it suffers in newer titles and the lack of vRAM doesn't help (even the extra 100MB on a 1GB helps a lot). I agree that the best solution would be a 6870 + an overclock. You'll also get the same performance, more vRAM, DX11, no multi-GPU issues, and a host of other features for about 1/3 the power usage (and quiet!). Newegg has them for $150 AR, less if you sell the free Dirt 3 coupon: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102948 . Your next step up would be a GTX 560Ti for ~$200 or a 6950 1GB for ~$225, both of which don't have the same bang-for-your-buck.

Ditto on the 6870. DX11 support, more VRAM, and you get close to the speed of the 295 in SLI, but in a single GPU card. And you can get them for a great price. I would go for one with a decent cooler so you can OC it.

GTX 480 would be on Par with a 295 (actualy faster).

My EVGA 295 (lifetime warranty) finally conked out 4-5 months ago and EVGA replaced it with a GTX 480. Its runs as hot and as power hungry as the 295.

The GTX 570 I think is a refresh of the 480 so almost the same speed but runs cooler and less voatge requirment (I think)

For sale forum sometimes have the 480 for sale, specially now when a lot of people are going for the 7970.

why dont you pm "Grooveriding" read in one his post that he may be trying to get rid of his 480's, he has 3 of them.

The 6870 isn't too far behind the 5870 which wasn't far behind the GTX 295. You can find 6870s pretty cheaply too. I was ready to get another one for Crossfire, but I don't game enough to justify it.

You realize that the OP's game was only using 1 gpu, so he only needs something equivalent to a gtx260 or 280 to replace it, dont you?

gtx 295 is pretty similar in speed to a 5870 which is like $200 used or a bit less.
