Hey everyone,

I am planning on buying a Compaq iPaq Wireless PC Card. I want to get a Linksys Access Point (my current network runs on Linkys). However, in the manual for the Linksys, it says the 128 bit encryption (which I want to use) may not work with other manufacturer's cards. Can I use the iPaq card with the access point on 128 bit encryption? I thought all the 802.11b products would work together.

Please let me know about this and thanks for reading

they all should...but since wep 128 is not industry wide standard...it may, and may not work....

Just a warning, I've used the compaq ipaq pcmcia card with a Linksys WAP11 and the compaq card doesn't get very good signal compared to my orinoco silver card. The orinoco silver card can be had for about $50 and has great sensitivity. My Ap is on the 3rd floor. From the first floor, the orinoco gets a steady strong signal around 5.5. With the compaq card, the signal ranges from zero to 2. It can't hold a consisten connection for more than a minute. Not trying to scare you, but this is my experience with the compaq card.

I have seen issue with some gear here and there.
For example my Nortel AP and my Cisco 340 card will not work togethor..i can associate but i cant use the net at all.
It is the same if I use a Nortel (Symbol) nic against my AP4800.....no go.

Check to see who makes the card and then check to see who makes the wireless chip in the AP.
