After looking long and hard about the available flat panel lcd monitors, it seems that the new Compaq TFT5030 monitor has just about the best specs around. 20ms pixel response is definitely nice, and the DVI input easily puts it above the KDS Rad5. While the price is quite high for a 15" LCD, less ghosting in high-performance games would easily give it the edge for me over other 17" models. Ghosting plus a cost of over $700 makes me leery of the 17"+ flat panels.
So, considering that, here are some questions I feel are pertinent.
#1: Will switching from a standard 16" viewable 17" monitor @ 1280x1024 to a 15" LCD @ 1024x768 be a huge difference? I've gotten fairly used to my beloved 1280x1024 resolution, but could consider switching back to 1024x768 for the benefits of the flat panel. What comments do any of you have that have made a similar switch?
#2: Should I just say to heck with LCDs for another 2 years and invest $500 in a nice 19" CRT? This option really does seem reasonable, but I've gotten the itch to exercise my 8500's DVI output.
Not to mention that games like Q3, CS, etc would still look as good as ever on a CRT. This would give me a bigger item to haul to lan parties though, which does suck.
#3: I suppose that simply ordering one from Compaq and then returning it if I am not satisfied IS an option, as their customer support has always seemed to be top notch. Any comments on trying this?

Bottom line? If the TFT5030 had a 1280x1024 native resolution, I don't think I would even hesitate to purchase one. My young eyes could take the torture, methinks. If only....
