Compaq SATA manufacturer?

Anyone know who makes Compaq SATA harddrives, if it's not Compaq themselves?

Maxtor is my guess. open it up and look always works

Well my HP uses Samsung drives..... Compaq = HP so do the math.

I actually think they would AVOID maxtor. They don't want to get a bunch of customer service calls saying "Harddrive made clicking noises 3 days ago...now my harddrive doesn't even WORK!"

Samsung, Seagate, or Western Digital would be my guess. It's not like they stick with one manufacturer all the time (or DO they?)

I've seen them use almost all brands. Seagate and WD most often for SATA

My guess is they go with who's cheapest at the time of their build runs... I wish they'd stay away from Seagate, they die far too often.

Thanks for the replies. I was just wondering because the company I work for recently received a low-grade "server" from Compaq which uses SATA drives, which surprised me. I'm not in that part of IT though, so I can only get so much information out of them.
