It appears that if you choose wireless, you don't get ethernet & 56k. Can anyone confirm this? I see no mention of ethernet & 56k in the review, either.

Giving up both wouldn't be terrible as long as you have wireless, but still..

You get all. The 56k and ehternet are built into the MB.
The system just doesnt show that you get all 3. Wireless over writes what is in the field.
I have purchased about 10 of these systems (v2552us) all with wireless and nics.
Not a bad laptop for <$600
