There is a mass media controller that has a ? next to it in the device manager after I reinstalled windows.
I checked it out with everest home and it is the media card reader.

So I went here

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfr...product=500508&lang=en

Found the Media Card Reader Driver and downloaded and installed it. When I install it, on the install file it says it's for the v2000 but it will not properly install the driver.

This is a fresh install of windows, I don't think windows got corrupted that quickly, has anyone dealt with this kind of thing before?

Also the installer says it's a texas instrument, has a specific number and it matches up perfectly with what everest says yet it still will not install the driver.

Try disabling/re-enabling the device in the Device Manager and then installing the driver. It could also be that the reader has just malfunctioned and no longer will work properly, but let's leave that until you're sure nothing else could be wrong.

Yeah, I'm thinking it is possible that the reader may have just gone bad. I don't even know if it was working before windows got wiped out.

I tried removing it and then installing, I tried disabling it and then re enabling it, I've tried rebooting after and nothing seems to be working. I figure I must have found the correct driver, when I go to install it, it says that it finished installing but then the found new hardware wizard comes up right after saying it found a new device, I've tried letting it try to install automatically, I've tried pointing to the folder where the driver go extracted to, I've tried windows update and nothing seems to install it.

What else could be wrong? I've thought about installing windows again in a new directory, like windows2 and then trying to install this driver first thing to see if the same thing happens. What else could I try if anything?

I'm having the same problem. I know the memory card reader works because I dual boot into Ubunu Linux, which autodetects the card reader just fine and it's usable in that OS. Windows for some reason refuses to load the proper driver though. Perhaps the wrong driver is listed for the wrong laptop in HP's website?
