Compaq Presario Dilemma

Recently was given a dozen Compaq Presario PC's (various flavors - 4000, 5000 series)

These are to be fixed, polished, updated and DONATED.

I do not have the original CD's, but was given Certifcates of Windows 98
that were purchased but never used. The PC's were wiped clean. (I know, I did them)

My DILEMMA is that try as I might, I can not seem to find the DRIVER for the
FRONT BEZEL (soft) Controls (also called Button Board).

Without the driver, the Controls do not function and the units need to be Powered
OFF by either Pulling the Power Cord or kicking the PSU switch.

As these will be used by small children (and unknowledgeable Adults), it is in the
best interest to make them function.

Any Help would be appreciated.

I looked around for a while but I couldn't find anything. Having exact model numbers might help.

Bump.

Thanks for the Reply but those are KEYBOARD drivers.

the Drivers I am looking for are for the SOFTPAD CONTROL.
(Volume Control, On/Off and Sleep/Snozze buttons mounted on the BEZEL Cover)

Okay, I'm sorry for my confusion. 😕

Just for explanation I have a old Presario 5100 at the house; the Button board was done away with in favor of keyboard keys. The sleep volume etc is built in on my keyboard. I assumed (My Mistake) that the 4700 was a much closer model to my 5100 then it actually was! :Q

My only other suggestion is trying posting here:
http://h30132.www3.hp.com/servlet/ProcessRequest?RHIVEID=121&RPAGEID=2&UCATEGORY_0=_7&UCATEGORY_S=0

If posting the board requests either the S/N or Compaq Tracking Number on the PC Case.

This is a Compaq Customer Community in one of the relevant search responses I found this page

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=92826&lang=en&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&

This lists all of Compaq's relevant drivers, but none specifically mention being the front bezel buttons. The link above has the 4714 Presario pre-entered, but you can search for any Compaq PC.

Perhaps posting to the Compaq Community site will find a more promising solution. . . or calling and ordering restore cd's is still an option if some kind soul doesn't have some old disks hanging around.

Good Luck. . .

Unfortunately I have exhausted all the resources I have.
(Driver HQ/Guide, Compaq, eBay, etc...)

I will give the CPQ Community a shot.

Up until last December I had a Subscription to Compaq RomPAQs.
Nothing in the Rompaqs in reguards to the drivers.
Contacted HP about the RESTORE CD availability and there are none.

For the 2-5000 series I was able to make-shift a shut off for.
The rest I guess I will have to hack also (not fun at all) or just chuck
if all else fails.

Thanks for all/your time.

Checked eBay for someone selling same model? Mebbe they have a recovery CD or driver CD they'd be willing to copy for you.

anything from here hp prove usefull? One of the ones under keyboard/mouse and input devices says something about easy acess buttons, could that be it?
