Office Depot has this notebook on sale starting Sunday, May 24 for $459.99 before 2 mail in rebates that bring it down to $379.99 plus tax.

Some specs:
AMD Athlon X2 QL-62 dual core processor
4GB Ram
320 GB HDD
15.6" screen
Vista Premium 64-bit

You can find it right on the front page on the Memorial Day ad link. The ad says in store only.

Looks super hot to me, any opinions?

Various versions of this machine have been since the first of the year for $400 AR. They're all essentially the same machine with variations on the amount of RAM the size of the hard drive and whether the burner has LightScribe.

Link to OD's offer. $50 of the MIR a Visa prepaid card and $30 is a normal MIR.

Specs from HP/Compaq.

Product Name: CQ60-228US
Product Number: NM353UA#ABA

For those who prefer XP, XP driver info from HP forums. AFIK, the only incorrect listing or bad link on the page is for the Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader Driver because the driver from forum list, version 3.0.1.4, has been replaced by ver. V6.0.6000.81 from realtek.com. I found the same driver version on HP/Compaq's site, but their version only lists Vista while Realtek's is spec'd for XP, as well.

If anyone is interested, I have the complete set of current XP drivers.

HP/Compaq no longer includes a restore disk set with their machines. Instead, the system allows you to burn ONE set of restore DVD's or CD's. It requires three blank DVD's or 11 - 12 CD's. If you intend to do this, as always, the FIRST thing you should do is burn the restore disk set so you can return the machine to its original setup if you need it or if you later want to give/sell it to someone else.

See Allisolm's previous HD threads about the CQ6-210US, the CQ6-206US and the CQ60-212US for more discussion and comments from those who bought these machines.

Anyway to upgrade screen to 1440x900? For some reason cheap laptops have too low resolution for my eyes.

no they need to dump these so they can sell win7 laptops :)

nice thing is the SLP license on these gives you all xp,vista options but i'd rather just wait for win7 native slp machines. probably include 2008 R2 SLP too.

If it runs Vista, at all, it will probably much better on Win 7.
