I've had this Compaq Presario 725US for a while now, it was my high school graduation present. It has treated me well except for the fact that the past few days its frozen fairly regularly, probably because im using it on a regular basis as I am at home and away from my desktop. Usually its only on for a few hrs at a time max.

When i touch the bottom of the laptop its pretty friggin hot, it always has been.

Is there a way to gauge the temps of the system in a laptop?

Do the heat pad things with fans really work well?

Anyone? It's happened 3 times today and I've googled but can't seem to find anything useful. Thanks!

I got a 700 series presario laptop recently, it had an overheating problem, i guess it's a fairly common thing w/ this series. Just google it. That's how i found information regarding the common overheating problem, as well as directions to fix it. Anyhow, long story short, i opened it up, and applied some thermal paste to the processor. Now it works like a charm. WARNING: Taking apart a laptop, and applying thermal paste properly, and putting it back together is not easy.

Another thing, i downloaded a program that helps to keep the laptop cool by changing the voltage and mhz of the processor. When it's not being used my laptop runs at 500 mhz, and when it's needed it kicks back in and runs at full 1000mhz....

Good luck!
