HI guys,

The laptop was working just fine. I downloaded the service guide and took apart the laptop and remove the CPU. my cpu was a mobile athlon 2400+.

after removal of the cpu and testing it on my rig. I put the CPU back onto the laptop and screw her up together, press the on button and lapton comes on but blank screen?
WTF?

Has anyone done this to a compaq laptop?
does removing the parts reset the eprom somehow and i get a blank screen?
I didn't break anything and everything went in the way they were suppose to. not even one screw left.

Anyone have any ideas or any links please help....

Major help needed.

Sometimes it helps to take it back out and reseat it, making sure nothing got stuck in between the pins somehow. Sometimes, it will just start working again for no apparant reason 😛 I would check for thermal grease or something on the CPu in places where it shouldn't be, also make sure that the heatsink is placed on the CPU evenly, and also make sure you didn't somehow crack the die when reinstalling it. Those older Socket A athlons are pretty fragile if you're not careful.

I used to have that exact same laptop, but I never took it apart, so I'm afraid I can't be of to much help.

thanx for the respon phaxmohdem,

i check the thermal grease, heatsink and nothing is stuck in between the pins either. took it out again and put it on desktop and cpu ran just fine.

i'm begganing to be a pro at taking this thing apart cause i did it like 3 times now?
