This is a fresh install of WinXP SP1. It didn't work before the format either, but I did not research it. The card is not detected by WinXP. The model of the card is "Compaq Wireless LAN Multiport W200" Multiport (removable, located behind screen) and I understand its on a USB connection.

WinXP is updated with windowsupdate. Drivers/software for this hardware is installed as well. The device is just not working. Any ideas?

Please allow me to note, in the year or so I have owned this laptop, the following hardware has failed:

AC Adapter
Battery (I believe, the AC Adapter ruined it, it no longer holds a charge)
W200 WiFi card (and for some reason, I believe the battery killed this..)

Physically check it out. Perhaps it's needs to be reseated/reconnected. As to the battery, If you have been leaving the battery in when fully charged and on A/C power then that will shorten a battery's life. It's also highly improbable the battery could cause the wifi card's death.

BTW, to counter your testimonial, here's mine. I have had a Compaq 900z for almost 2yrs and not one thing has gone wrong with it. Not so much as a BSOD or crash to desktop. All I did was remove the bloatware when I got it. Even the battery still holds a 3hr charge after all this time :)

Wanna trade!? I did reseat the card, I unscrewed it, cleaned the contacts, and screwed it back on.

LOL, touche' :) I got it on a hot deal and it was build to order from overseas so perhaps that effected build quality in a good way?

Hi, I have the exact same system as yours.

I also have the wifi like yours. Maybe I can help you out if you tell me what exactly the problem is.

You can PM me if you want.

I did have prob with wifi but it was a software issue rather than the hardware. So if you want, just PM me and I will try to help you as much as I can.
