Okay, I've gotten myself a cheap 1255 laptop, and it came without any OS installed. So I pulled out my Win98SE disc and installed the OS. Now, I'm not 100% sure what's inside this thing, but does it have a PC Card controlled CD-ROM drive? As when Windows is installing, it will come up with a screen asking for the drivers (if I need to install them), I selected "No" and I believe it needed the proper drivers as now I cannot read from my CD-ROM drive. Now I'm trying to FIND drivers for this thing, but since it's old, I'm having quite a bit of trouble.

If anyone knows or can give me a hand finding drivers, or getting Windows to read from the CD-ROM, I'd be very thankful.

Compaq's site has a rom update for this machine, plus lots of other drivers and updates. They also have The original emergency recovery diskette. Have you tried any of these? I have a 1675 Presario that I picked up for free and the drivers for everything were on their site.
