Compaq PC power supply replacement

I was replacing a power supply for a compaq PC. I thought any atx power supply for P4 would work. It's an older PC (3-5 yrs).

I got an ATX power supply made by Thermaltake and it didnt fit properly in the case & the power connector did not fit onto the motherboard.

The old power supply was part # 243890-001. What is so unique about this power connector to the motherboard?

I sized up the pins and they are the same amount but the edges on the plastic connectors are different (the round/square corners). It does not plug in.

I've never seen this before. Anyone have any ideas?

That's a custom (proprietary) Small Form Factor power supply made for HP/COMPAQ.

You'll need either SFX, Micro ATX, or PS3 form factor PSU, whichever you find is the closest match for the OEM PSU dimensions. As for the connectors, can't help you there. You'll need to sort that out the same way.

If you could post the dimensions of that PSU, it would be great. It seems the dimensions of this PSU are some kind of state secret, as not even HP gives any hint of its size.

Sorry I do not have the dimensions available. I already ordered an exact replacement on ebay. If I rotated the motherboard power connector 180 degrees it still would not plug in.

Compaq has gone out of their way to make many parts proprietary, particularly psu's and mobos.

The wire color code can even be different, so be careful...

Contact www.power-on.com - they may be able to come up with what you need, it's their specialty...

Edit- sorry, I missed the part about how you've ordered another while composing my message...
