This is my first hot deal post, (or so I hope it is to you). I came across this 19" monitor with JBL speakers and microphone at a nearby Staples for $349.50. It turns out it rang up at $279.50, I used a $40 off $200 coupon and Compaq is offering a $150 cash back rebate on purchases of select monitors, of which this is one, for purchases made between April 7, 2002 and July 6, 2002. So I get it for $108.06 after the mail-in rebate from Compaq. The location I went to is in So Cal, there were two left . Not all stores have the same monitor on clearance as the ones around here seem to have a variety of things on clearance as they remodel, so YMMV.
Check this site regarding the rules: http://athome.compaq.com/SHOWROOM/static/promo/spring_bundle/index.asp

I called my local Staples looking for the MV740 deal that was posted (LINK) and it was out of stock. The manager kindly offered me the MV940 on clearance for $249. I had the in store $40 off $200 so it comes out to:
$249-40-150 = $59! (plus tax of about $12).

They had one left and they held it for me until I could get there after work. (this was on 5/31).

Has anyone used this monitor? I haven't gotten out of the box yet, but the reviews are pretty good. The only disappointing thing is the speakers. The AC power is supplied by the monitor. There is a power cable that plugs into the speaker and the back of the monitor. I wanted to use the speakers separately for my laptop at work. I just need to find a 12v/1A AC adapter. The only one I have is 12v/800mA from an old cordless phone.

Murse,
You got an incredible deal! My Staples didn't have the 740's so I didn't know about that deal at the time I saw the 940. I'm interested to hear about what advice others can offer about powering these JBL speakers with an adapter, possibly the one you have.

This looks like a great deal. Now.... if there was only a Staples within 100 miles of where I live.

12v/800mA should work, but if it doesn't ( aka melts ) there is always one of these.

Hmm,

I just got a denial letter for the 740 17" CompUSa deal. I sent every thing in and even made copies. The letter doesn't even say why, so I have to call tomorrow. WTF?

Bump for a good deal...just save your info.

Anyone else having problems getting their compaq rebates?

I also bought the FS740 from CompUSA a while back and am still waiting on my rebate. I'd like to try and get this 19" monitor if possible, I know a few people who would gladly take this 17" off my hands. But I want to make sure Compaq honors their rebates.

bender, did you enter your rebate online? I entered mine from the Compusa sale (bought via PM at Staples). It took almost 3 weeks before the rebate showed up online, and it said it would be 2-4 weeks after that before the rebate was sent. It's been about 3 weeks, so if the check doesn't show up in another week or two I'll start calling. In other words, I wouldn't get worried yet.

Well, I registered at Compaq's website and the reply was that it is a valid model for the rebate. They sent me a form with the serial number I gave them encoded on it and said make sure to mail in the serial number cut from the side of the box and my receipt. It's in the mail so now I have to sit back and see what happens.

The $40 off $200 coupon expired 5/31 but check the thread on the firewire Maxtor HD at Staples. BTW, the store I purchased from was all out of the 940's today.

Scored one today.

Lower Manhattan store (no sales tax day)
160.00 less a 30.00 coupon + 0.00 sales tax.
They added 10.00 for delivery (He wanted more but I bargained him down). I know it's supposed to
be free delivery but that is from the Web Site. His free delivery is within 1/2 mile from the store.;
To summaryize

Monitor 160.00
Less Cpn. 30.00

Bal 130.00
Add Ship. 10.00

Net 140.00

Rebate 150.00

Make 10.00 on the deal.
SN registers as eligible.

To top it off I am building a machine for someone and they are paying 155.00 for it.

Will wait for the next tax free day (if before July 7 - rebate expiration date) and try for the 940.00 with a 40 off 200.

I added this to my Business Rewards Card too so I will get a small rebate from them and when I accumulate over
$1000.00 I will have fee shipping - even for less than $50.00.

Just opened and installed this montor tonight. It is not bad at all.
At the price it is certainly a steal.

Just picked an MV940 up from the Staples in Venice, CA on Friday

Rang up as $279 but the manager gave it to me for $250. Also, allowed me to use the $30 off $150 coupon (see f@twallet) and there is a compaq rebate for $150 (checked the serial number at it qualifies)

So total:

$250 - 30 - 150 = $70 (plus tax of course)

Now here's the "Hot Deal" Part. WHEN I LEFT THE STORE ON FRIDAY THERE WERE STILL 2 MV940's Left :)

The monitor seems pretty decent, not a total flat screen but good color and 1600x1200 @60hz. Plus it comes with some pretty cool mountable JBL Pro Series Speakers and a built in microphone.
