compaq laptop

I have a compaq presario1200 that has no video. I need to get in to see if there are any loose modules or connections, but I don't see how to get into it. It doesn't look like the keyboard lifts out to me. there are screws on the bottom, but I'm affraid to just start taking out screws. Anybody been in one of these? I've done quite a bit of work on computers, but not many laptops.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
DR

Does the laptop power up at all?

There really isn't anything you are going to find inside that is modular.
Power Supply, modem are about the only things.

Could be the LCD Panel itself. The Cathode Flourescent Lamps go bad from
use and abuse.

presario 1200 will not boot, blank screen even using a monitor. Does not POST. Went to check memory and there is no memory module under the cover on bottom of computer. I looked inside and I don't see a memory stick on the motherboard either, although I could have missed it there, I'm not use to laptops. Question is Is the main (or only) stick of ram under the cover on bottom marked "memory expansion" or is that just an expansion slot? Could someone have stolen this person's ram?
Thanks,
DR

The laptop came with 32mb onboard system ram, so it should boot either way.
The slots under the cover are for additional ram.

Do you have another AC Adapter to try to rule that out?
Listen to see if the FANS power-up.

I've had a few of these that needed the Voltage Convertor boards replaced.

Thanks for your reply. The fan comes on and stays on. I hear the hard drive spin up, but I can't tell that it is doing the POST, so I thought it might be some bad memory.
