Compaq R3000z Laptop -Purchased March 2005 - Office Depot $550 after MIR

Heres my story. About a month ago I couldnt start my laptop. I tried many things, but nothing seemed to work. No lights or anything.

I called Tech support, they had me hold the power button for 5minutes. Low and behold, my laptop powered up with no problem. Since then, I havent had any issues. See THIS THREAD for more info http://www.r3000forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1216&highlight=

NOW
Yesturday I went to bootup my laptop, and nothing happen. I tried everything again, even the 5min power button hold thing, nothing... I waited till this morning, and started to fiddle with it again. Nothing, no power lights, nothing. I took out the 256mb memory I added. Redid the steps above, nothing. I called Tech support tonight, and they had me go thru the standard steps. First thing he asked was to press the power button. What do you know, the laptop powered up!! I was furious. I spent a good 2hrs trying to get it to work the pass 2 days, and now it started to work when im on the phone with tech support. Next I decided to play dead. I told him nothing happen, yada yada yada. I eventually got him to agree on an RMA. Reason I did this, I didnt want to have to go thru this entire episode again. After I got off the phone, I power the laptop up. It started up fine. I then tried to shutdown. The laptop just went dead, without going thru the entire shutdown. I then restarted the computer, and it went dead in the middle of the WindowsXP splash screen. I then powered up again, and it went thru. Im now running PCMark04 to see if anything odd happens.

Now, heres what im looking for suggestions on. Im worried that if I send it in, and it boots up fine for them, then nothing will get resolved. Does Compaq repair center run thourogh test on incoming laptops? Will I just be wasting my time sending the laptop in if they dont see the problem?

Any suggestions welcome. Im stumped on what I should do...
