Seems a pretty good alternative if you don't want to lug around a full size mp-3 player.

Mini-Cd player here

When it comes to portable audio for today's music listener, size definitely matters. That's why Compaq is proud to introduce the Compaq iPAQ ? Personal Mini-CD Player PM-1. Ready to play a standard mini-CD, mini-CD-R or mini-CD-RW, the iPAQ Personal Mini-CD Player PM-1 can pump out 80 tracks from a disk that's over 50% smaller than a standard CD. That's up to 6 hours of music burned to disk in MP3 audio format. In short, the iPAQ Personal Mini-CD Player PM-1 is the perfect pint-sized portable with a tiny price tag.

? With mini-CD-R capacity, listeners can enjoy up to 80 songs or 6 hours (180 MB) of audio from a single disk.
? Comes with 3 blank mini-CD-R disks. (3" - 180MB each)
? 8-minute Electronic Skip Protection (ESP) for active portable use.
? Rechargeable batteries with an AC Adapter for nonstop enjoyment.

? Plays mini-CD-R, mini-CD-RW or conventional mini-CD disks. The compact, truly portable player for people who burn MP3 audio files to disk.
? Includes popular,easy-to-use MusicMatch Jukebox and Windows Media? Player software for your PC.
? Features five equalizer modes and a remote LCD display.
? In-line full-function remote with LCD for total control of the player and the music.

This is exactly what I've been looking for. Sub $100 miniCD mp3 player with ac power input. That's the price off compaq's site, so I'm sure we'll score a better deal after it goes out to the cutthroat vendors, maybe a little PM+coupon action.

Too bad it looks like it just fell out of the ugly tree. I was hoping for a more styled-looking chrome model, similar to the PDA's from compaq.

I purchased the PM-1 a few months ago and didn't really like it that much. The skip protection is fabulous, and the included headphones are pretty good quality. The package advertises it as being compatible with CDRWs, but the key thing to note is that you can't play MP3-CDRWs. It's also not compatible with WMA or AAC. The Philips Expanium mini-CD player is MP3 and AAC compatible, but it has a terrible battery life (on the order of 2.5 hours on one AA battery). The Philips does not play MP3-CDRWs either, but it is AAC compatible so you can pack 'em in.

I bought it a while back as well. I thought that the skip protection was horrible. I tried running with it, and couldn't...it skipped all the time.

Just my $0.02.
