well i *do* work pro bono for her as a proofreader and general computer dude... and i'm giving her my palm. i think a palm might suit her better anyways... either that or i'm trying to make myself feel better for taking it away from her :D

Here goes:

* Screen protectors - Write-right, all the way
* Case - Absolute best at vajacases.com
* Scheduling - Ummm...built-in Outlook calendar?
* Expense - There is a free expense tracker here. Other s/w will have more functions/features, but the important thing is that it synchs with the finance software you are using (Quicken, Money) on your PC.

im not even sure :p

one thing that i like and is free is trancender..

one thing that i hate is when you close a program but it just minimizes it, then you have to launch another program to see which are open and manually close them. thats why i got wisbar.. saves my life..

oh i just found out how to check it, it's wince 3.

do you think i should upgrade to ppc2002? i heard that it was a bad idea for the 3635 because of the limited system resources...

thanks for the help guys, i really appreciate it :)

oh and are there any performance tweaks that i should know about?

u can overclock the iPaq with JS Overclock. I have had sucess at running at 221Mhz, but nothing higher.

PPC 2k2 isn't all it was cracked up to be. I "aquired" a copy of it, but didn't really like it so I flashed down to the PPC 2k ROM. eWallet which is included on the Compaq CD is a very good app. It helps you keep track of all your credit cards/ID numbers/etc in a very secure way. Also check out Peter's GameBox for a whole pack of cool games that will keep you busy for awhile. If you havn't already, download the latest version of MS ActiveSync and Windows Media player 7

Enjoy!

oh, so there is a PPC 2000... anybody know how i can get it? do i have to buy it from ms?

i'll go and dl that new activesync... the overclocking doesn't sound like it's worth the effort.. not much of a gain.

anybody have recommendations for expense software? pocket money seems to be fairly limited in terms of functionality. for example, i don't think it can handle split transactions...

im running ppc2002 and see no probs or decrease in performance.. i think its definately worth the upgrade..

if you want your battery to last longer dont overclock!

for software feel free to go to M$ site to see whats available, they have a ppc section.

It comes preloaded on your iPaq. CE 3.0 = PPC2000

Not really. It makes listening to MP3s w/ Media player and doing OTHER things on the PDA at the same time bearable. Without it, it seems a bit sluggish. I have not seen any negitive side effects from it...

You definitely need that free DivX MPEG-4 player for Ipaq. Can't remember what it was, but it will play an entire two hour movie off a 256MB Flash Card (with the sleeve, don't ask me where to get that either). I'm actually ticked because my USR Palm Personal (!) broke down after five years of ownership. :( I was waiting for something like the Ipaq to drop below $500 so I can have movies on the go but now I'm stuck between buying a weenie PDA like an (IMO overpriced) M100 and biting the bullet and spending $600+ on an Ipaq.

standardcell - if you're willing to get the discontinued 36xx series, i think they're lilke 400 now. of course they aren't as good as the 37xx or the 38xx series, but they're still nice.

Take a look at the hot deals section. $400 is what the MSRP was when they came out!
