Since the forum doesnt seem to let you view the thread without registering is just a little bit of the kind of stuff that ATi is claiming over there.. I think they are wrong in what they are saying.. Does anyone agree with me, (I know that the Anandtech article does), Does anyone know who provided the information for the 9200 mobile article on anandtech?
Quotes for Chris Hook ATI PR Manager:
"Here you go:
1) Are you validating the fact that the chip IS a 9000 and not a 9200 chip and that use of the 9200 brand name is just a marketing gimick.
A. What we're saying is that the user accepts that the 9200 and 9000 (HP) are equal when the accept a Centrino chipset, which makes them equal given its lack of AGP 8X support. If they're equal, what does it matter which brand you choose? If you wanted AGP 8X so badly, then why did you buy a Centrino notebook?
2) Is it not true that the 9000 and 9200 are in fact different core chips ( 250 vs 280 ).
A. There's no difference here - from the standpoint of the user they're identical.
3) Is it not true that the 9200's are normally clock higher, and that the X1000 is physically incapable of running at those speeds.
A. You could run the 9200 in a hundred different notebooks and get 100 different clock speeds. What's important here is that within the power and thermal confines of this notebook, the two chips deliver the same performance"

Sure - it's a special version of MR9000 that matches MR9200, and delivers performance and features identical to the MR9200.
The only thing it doesn't have that the MR9200 has is AGP 8X, which isn't supported anyway by the Centrino CPU in the X1000 (it's AGP 4X). AGP 8X support in the GPU wouldn't affect their user experience whatsoever.
Since performance and features are identical, we allow HP to use the 9200 branding. After all, users are getting the complete MR9200 experience, and that's what they've paid for.

If I remember the new core is supposed to allow for higher clockspeeds is this right? So the 9000 would not be the same as the 9200 right?
