I got this lappy in today. It was known to not have video to the LCD. It would, however, display on an external monitor. So I did that. Things were looking up.
During POST it would display that it had a PCI Bus conflict, Bus 2 Device 5. Don't know what that is but probably explains why it wouldn't boot from the optical drive.

So...

I left for work with the power cord disconnected, the battery out and the CMOS battery out. When I came home tonight and put these items back in place I found that it wouldn't power up at all. The blue light for the battery was the only sign of life. Could a dead CMOS battery be a problem? (wild stretch, I know)

Now for the fun of it I looked up the motherboard and found out it is the same as what is in an HP DV6000 series laptop. If I had known beforehand I wouldn't have bought it since those have well known issues.

If I have to purchase a "new" motherboard that makes this project not worth the cost. Whaddya think folks?

Side note: The battery got awfully hot while I had it in operation. That ain't normal, is it?

Thanks, Barry
