Compaq Evo n410c Beeps at Me!

I bought my first laptop two weeks ago on Ebay. It was a compaq Evo n410c, a very fine little laptop.

Things were well the first day. By day 2, I had upgraded to windows xp, and I noticed a beeping sound from the laptop. I hoped it would go away, but it did not. I called tech support, and they sent me a replacement hard drive. It still beeped. I sent in the laptop for repair, they replaced the system board, but it still beeps.

Now for the tech details. The beep is a three-stage beep that is loudest at the end. It is kind of a boop-boop-BEEP sound. Most of the time when it beeps, the IDE access light comes on for a moment. Sometimes it doesnt. It sometimes happens successively three-four times in a row, and sometimes is silent for half an hour. The only consistency I can find is that it beeps twice just as it is shutting down, one a few seconds before shutdown and one at shutdown.

The sound is kind of like an electronic chirping sound. I cannot quite identify where it is coming from, but it sounds like it is coming from the system board.

I have intalled all of the current drivers and flashed a new bios. The beep comes out even when I am in bios, so I do not think it is a software problem.

Please help!
