I need to install a 20 gig HD in a compaq deskpro4000. This computer came with a 3.2 gig so it's a few years old. Will the BIOS see a 20 gigger????

This will not be the boot drive. Just a secondary slave.

Thanks

best to update your bios to the latest version for your m/board. the latest version, may or may not see a hdd that large!
the hdd manufacturer may offer a drive overlay utility to overcome such a limitation on its website!
the more costly option would be to get a promise ATA66 or 100 pci card & run the new drive from it. this is possible as the card has its own bios with the ata100 card having a limitation of 128Gb!

Im not sure if Windows 95 supports FAT32? I know Windows 98 should make it one big partion without any problems. Not sure for Win95 but you can with Win98. With win95 I think you can but will have to use a floppy that comes with the Drive and it will let you partion the drive. Some BIOS only let you go up to 8 GIG I believe it is. So you might need to flash the BIOS, but I wouldnt mess with it unless you know how to flash your BIOS. Most drive come with a floppy to help make bigger partions. I might be way off here, its just been so long since I have to setup and H/D is a older system.

Good Luck!

Sorry, I should have mentioned it is running NT4. I will update the BIOS and just give it a shot. COmpaq doesnt offer any info on there site about larger HD's in this system.

Thanks for the replies
