Compaq CQ62 219WM stumper . . .

I have a Compaq Presario CQ62 219WM laptop that has a strange power/battery issue!

The led next to the power jack (with the battery installed) goes white for a few seconds and then to a steady orange and stays that way.

After the CQ62 boots up (which it does with no problems) the power/battery indicator by the clock on the screen shows no charging and is running off of the battery. If I remove the battery, the light by the power supply jack stays steady white (no orange) and the CQ62 219WM will not boot up!

Not that it is related but it seems as though the mouse pad is not working either!

Anyone have suggestions or experience with this type of problem?

thanks pclaptop

Have at least 2 of those CQ62s. Not sure what 'boot up' means to you. If you mean after removing the battery and plugging in the AC and pressing power on. Nothing happens or does the screen come on and is blank or it gets past the COMPAQ Bios screen but Windows doesn't start?

As for your mouse pad, there is a mousepad on/off button. Well it's not really a button, but where the mousepad light is press it.

In nearly most cases your laptop should boot regardless without a battery installed. It's when a bad battery is connected that the laptop BIOS will often display a message about it before continuing to boot up Windows.

It could also be your power adapter. If you connect a lesser adapter it can also display a message about it.
