Compaq Armada 1700 and hard drive thickness

I've got an old Compaq Armada 1700 here (Pentium II) with a dying hard drive. The one it's currently got is 9mm thick. However, the caddy thing it's mounted to look like it could support one a bit thicker. Can this take a 12.5mm drive possibly?
LMK if you need any more information - laptops are a bit new to me in terms of their internal workings; I've mainly been a desktop user.

Do you happen to know if it would accept a thicker drive? It looks like there's some extra space there for a few more millimeters of hard drive.

In case anyone's wondering, the drive bay, which comes with a 9.5mm drive, does appear to accept a 12.7mm thick drive. Just in case anyone cares to know.
